The CRM3-E is a router specially designed for the MMAC that utilizes either A, B, or C channel Ethernet from the MMAC's backplane. This module offers greater flexibility for accomodating a variety of media, protocols, and transmission rates. By running Cisco's industry-leading routing software, the CRM3-E can provide remote locations with several internetworking benefits, including access authentication for security, header compression and priority queuing for improved bandwidth utilization.

Network Processor Modules (NPMs) provide the CRM3-E with support for several combinations of Ethernet, Token Ring, Wide Area, and FDDI interfaces -- all on a single platform. In addition, the CRM3-E comes equipped with Flash erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM) chips. Flash EPROMS enable software upgrades to be handled remotely.
